Artist

Lakshmi Durga is a professional art teacher with a post graduate degree in the Arts from Andhra University, India. She learned art from gifted teachers in India, Europe, and the United States. Lakshmi demonstrated a strong interest and passion in art during her childhood that later became her profession and life’s work. She has more than fifteen years of experience teaching Art in India and in the United States, and in doing so has inspired hundreds of students to pursue art avocationally and professionally. Lakshmi serves as a member of the South Brunswick District Arts Commission.


  Lakshmi has founded Heera’s Art Center in 2004 and has been teaching a variety of art within her students using step by step methodology. She motivates her students to develop their fundamental and basic skills that lead to advanced levels of art over a period of time. Her systematic and proven curriculum have enabled them to build a strong commitment. Believing that the love for art comes from the heart, she teaches art with dedication and focus in a nurtured and caring environment.

Lakshmi uses a variety of media such as oil paints, water colors, acrylic paints, enamel paints, fabric paints, ceramic paints, and graphite. She enjoys working on different surfaces, including, canvas, paper, glass, fabrics, wood and clay. She undertakes face painting projects for memorable occasions and events. She also conducts Birthday parties with a selected theme. Furthermore, Lakshmi loves creating wall mural paintings as displayed in her home.


  Exhibitions of her artwork can be seen in the municipal buildings and libraries of South Brunswick, North Brunswick, East Brunswick, and Franklin Township in New Jersey where she has won the hearts of the art lovers. She served as the juror for the Plainsboro Art Chapter to select the artworks for the International peace contest. She delivered an inspiring lecture conducted by Middlesex Arts Commission to promote art in New Jersey.
